I propose changing this article's name to Phatic Expressions, explaining what a phatic expression is, why people use them, and then adding sections for other phatic expressions people might use besides this one. For example, recently there was a discussion on twitter about how people use "Let's get coffee sometime" as a phatic expression.  Martienne17 (talk) 11:21, 24 August 2022 (UTC)

: I'm not sure. In cases where the technical term is not familiar to many (I'd never heard of Phatic Expressions), I think it's easier to navigate to a topic of interest if the title is meaningful to everybody. Within the page itself, certainly, introducing the technical term for a thing and expanding with explanatory examples adds interest and an educational element. Others may think differently, so I'm open to further debate, it was just my thought. :) - Russell Cannon (talk) 12:34, 24 August 2022 (UTC)

Phatic expressions[edit]

I propose changing this article's name to Phatic Expressions, explaining what a phatic expression is, why people use them, and then adding sections for other phatic expressions people might use besides this one. For example, recently there was a discussion on twitter about how people use "Let's get coffee sometime" as a phatic expression. Martienne17 (talk) 11:21, 24 August 2022 (UTC)

This is a great idea, actually. For now I'll just add a stub page Phatic expression and add "See also"-links on both pages! --Fochti (talk) 23:32, 25 August 2022 (UTC)
