The gustatory system, or the sense of taste, is a well-known sense. Autistics can be hyper- or hypo-sensitive to taste.

Taste is not the only sense used when eating. Smells and texture are also involved. This is why many (not all) autistics have safe foods.

Types of taste/flavor are: Sweet, sour, salty, bitter, savory (umami). Some also include spicy.
