Accent mimicry

Accent mimicry is the practice of temporarily takin on a similar accent as the person one is talking to. This can be intentional or unintentional. Accent mimicry can be for several reasons. This list is not exhaustive:

  • masking
  • trying to fit in
  • a form of echolia
  • because one finds the accent enjoyable to use
