The gustatory system, or the sense of taste, is a well-known sense. Autistics can be hyper- or hypo-sensitive to taste.
Taste is not the only sense used when eating. [[Olfaction_perception|Smells] and texture are also involved. This is why many (not all) autistics have safe foods.
Types of taste/flavor are: Sweet, sour, salty, bitter, savory (umami). Some also include spicy.
